I had noticed that some W210's have got chrome rings around the oval circumferences of their headlights, but some don't.

Does anyone know if the original (1996) model came with chrome rings ex-factory?

Or were they after-market add ons installed by some owners?

I am quite sure that the current (2000) W210 models do not come with chrome rings.

Wonder if the chrome rings will avert the problem/issue of bugs getting stuck around the circumference of the headlights???.....

You can order the chrome rings aftermarket. I think you can even order them from the MB Accessory Catalog. Just call 1-800-mercedes and press number for catalog sales and tell them what you want. I don't think they are that expensive.

Its aftermarket in Malaysia - you could also get the same for the rear lights.

I bought the chrome headlight rings for my 2000 E430 on EBAY
last year for about $70. It looks very nice on the W210 headlights. The chrome on the rings are still look like
new. The chrome rings are very easy to clean with wet cloth
to remove any bug stucks around the headlights.

Try calling the 1-800-FOR-MERC and press buttons to get to the catalog order department. I've seen in previous accessory catalogs the chrome rings for the E-Class and the CLK-class. They used to be on their website, but don't appear to be there anymore.

Chrome rings are optional add-ons and, yes, the W210 headlights have changed (together with the model change in 99), bit that is hardly noticeable.
