Does anyone know what the cost of a new 1986 560 SEL was ? What were the options available? Thanks for any help.

I do not have records on U.S. retail prices, but I have the official M.B. for February 13, 1989:

560SE......................D.M. 112,300.00
560SEL.....................D.M. 116,800.00

Sorry, but no idea of the exchange rate of Deustch Marks at the time. The prices are also for Diplomat and Tourist sales in Germany. Regular retail prices were about 15% higher.

In terms of optional equipment, I do have the original M.B. U.S. brochure, which list the following optional extras for the 560SEL:

-Four place seating package
-Front seats with electrically operated orthopedic seats
-Front seat with reinforced springs
-Metallic paint (at no extra charge)
-Upholstery, velour

Specifications for the U.S. 560SEL were:

Net Power: 238 h.p.
Net torque: 287 lb-ft
Displacement: 5,547 c.c. / 338.5 cu.in.
Compression ration: 9.0:1
Rear axle ratio: 2.47:1
Cd Value: 0.36
Curb weight: 4,035 lbs.
Interior volume: 100.0 cu.ft.
Trunk capacity: 15.2 cu.ft
Turning circle: 40.6 ft.

On the East coast of the U.S., 560SELs retailed for about $53,000 in 1986. Also, they only made 16,559 of them in 1986. I got this info from a book called "Mercedes-Benz Production Models Book 1946-1995", written by W. Robert Nitske. The book doesn't really go into detailabout all the diffferent options there were.

Well, it's not an '86, but I have the original sticker for my car ('87 560SEL) and it reads $66,800.00. The car came with only the standard features, so I can't be much help on that question.
