Lightbulb Mercedes rolls out iPhone integration

Filed under: Gadgets, Tech, Mercedes Benz, Toys

While many carmakers have worked seemless iPod integration into their vehicles - a surprising make-it-or-break-it factor for many buyers - Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will offer iPhone integration in its automobiles.

The feature will include a docking cradle in the center armrest between the driver and front passenger seats, with the device's phone and audio functions navigable via controls on the steering wheel. The kit will be offered starting in August, can be retrofitted to previous model-year vehicles and will be offered on new vehicles as an option. Although US pricing has yet to be announced, the feature costs the equivalent of $389 in Europe.

That's pretty cool. Now, if Apple would allow other carriers to offer the I Phone, maybe I'd buy one.

Hi all,
Could we get back to the question of whether or not this cradle can be installed in a '04 E320 wagon, there are plenty of mac forums out there to vent or rave about your iPhone.

My wagon did not come with the factory phone completer kit installed, so it's almost a given that if this new iPhone cradle was compatible with the '04 phone systems, I would have to first purchase and install those parts into vehicle.

Does anyone have any experience installing and integrating this 3G iPhone cradle into an '04 or later model Benz? If so what were your impressions and was it worth it!

Do you have any sort of a cradle in the center console?
