Met an SLR last night

The engine rumble woke me up as it drove past. I was lying down in the back of my wagon at the time. I was able to look up just in time to see it zoom past. My first thought was that the car was the new SL, which I'm not even sure are out yet. Plus, SL's don't sound like that! AMG maybe?

So, the driver pulled up to a garage/industrial building 100 yards down the street. It wasn't until I saw the driver open the passenger door that I knew it was something truely special. Gullwings.

THis I gotta see, so I walked down the road and had the following conversation:

Me: "I like your car"

Driver: "thanks, but its not mine".

Me: "I didn't think any of these were in San Diego?"

Driver: "yeah there are a few. This is my brother's wife's car. He bought it for her for an anniversary gift. He drives a black one. That's my baby in there (points to the black ferrari 430 in the garage)"

Me: "I've never seen one in real life. just pictures. I thought might have been an SL AMG when you drove by, but then I saw the gullwings..."

Driver: "Six twelve, six twenty, something like that. This is an 06. $495M or something he paid. We're thinking about taking it to the gumball. But Korea scares us. I'll take the ferarri, my brother will take his car (black slr) and his wife will drive this one".

Me: "That's awesome"

Driver: "We won't win, but it'll be fun"

Me: "I don't doubt it. That's what it's all about isn't it?"

Driver: "yeah"

Me: "Well, hey nice meeting you. My name's Matt"

Driver: "Jeff, nice to meet you".

Me: "thanks a lot and good luck!"

Pictures just don't do the SLR justice. It really is a beautiful car.

Atherton is like that, isn't it? I think that's where Larry Ellison lives, isn't it?
