Lightbulb Details: Aston Martin and Mercedes' "â?¬300m deal"

In today's chaotic automotive industry, if you're not merging, divesting, or collaborating, then you're just not trying. Both Aston Martin and Mercedes are only about 18 months removed from their respective divorces from Ford and Chrysler, and now the two luxury automakers are looking to shack up with one another. This time, though, they'll skip wedded bliss in favor of a limited agreement between two consensual companies. CAR gave us some details in on the limited partnership in its September issue, and now the British rag is making with the details.

Hmm, now that is an interesting concept. Before I even read the article I thought "It would be nice if Aston Martin could get the Mercedes out of Maybach so it wouldn't feel like an expensive S-Class" (I'm of course talking about the cockpit and certainly not the perfect passenger compartment.)

I always thought that Astons were a bit underpowerd so AMG levels of power in a light Aston Martin would be a very nice combination. Just the thought of Ford and Aston Martin being used in the same sentence still makes me cringe.

The Brits have the styling part down pat and the Germans have the engineering and mechanics well in hand. Seems like this collaboration is going to be great.

Shocking, I can't beleive the Germans and the Brit's could get along well enough to build a car.
