Lightbulb Spy Shots: 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS caught primping for the camera

Filed under: Spy Photos, Sedan, Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz, Luxury

The long-lens of Priddy and Co. have snagged the 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS readying itself for a photoshoot ahead of its debut later this year, and most of the stylistic elements originally shown on the CLS Shooting Brake and F800 Style concepts have carried over unscathed.

The shapely headlamps are drawn further back over the fenders, but are decidedly less organic and more angular compared to its predecessor. LEDs are nestled within the side air intakes, and the fascia, central air dam and grille are all larger and more aggressive.

The edginess begins to subside out back, leading off from the plummeting swage line and into the enlarged LED taillamps, with the rear fenders gaining an additional bit of bulge, similar to the new E-Class. Naturally, the low-slung, arching roofline remains, providing some balance to the CLS's new sharp lines.

When the 2011 CLS goes on sale later this year, expect a choice of V6 and V8 powerplants, including the automaker's new 60-degree 3.5-liter direct injected V6, good for over 300 horsepower or the twin-turbo'd 4.6-liter V8 putting out 429 hp and 516 pound-feet of torque. Expect to get an official eyeful from Mercedes within the next few months, just before the wraps come off the CLS at the Paris Motor Show.
