I am looking at this car and it looks like it has been well maintained with service records etc. I am unaware of any major services that have been done and I am wondering what items I should look at. The price is right and the body and interirior look flawless so I don't mind putting some money into this car over the years. I do plan on owning the car for awhile. I am aware of rear suspension issues, radiator neck failures and I have heard (and experienced) early transmission failures. How about top ends, timing chains, front end steering issues and those kinds of things? I can handle minor repairs, brakes and the like but want to be carefull. Any advice is appreciated.

Good car! If you like, you should go for it. They are subject to the same issues as the 300e is. The car is a Mercedes-Benz, after all, so you can count on it being well built, but will need average expensive maintenance from time to time. Now if you are a junky and start to do rebuilds….there is a thread here about someone who but a C36 engine & related tweaks to their '88 TE wagon plus a few adders. See 360TE AMG project completed (PICS!)

There is also Renntech and a few other builders out there, so if you are into it, the sky is the limit!

Thanks for the reply. I am buying the car remotely so I am having a third party inspector checkout the car. Just want to be sure. That is a beautiful 300TE you referenced. Don't think mine will ever look like that but we can dream!
