Thank you. Do you have one as well? I have not seen another in the U.S. (Saw two in Spain 300CE and a 300E).

The steering wheel, at 390mm in diameter, is the same as on a 500E/E500.
Nice car you've got there!

We have a customer with one very similar to yours. May be exactly like yours. It's a signal red 300 coupe Sportline, not sure of the exact year, but it's around a 93, may be newer?

OK. I had to read through some of my info. This was a confusing era for MB model designations, it's when they started putting the "class" first, then the displacement. I think the guy with the coupe must have a 94 or 95, because it seems to me the designation is "E320", formally this would be called an E320 Coupe, but no "Coupe" designation was put on the car, I guess it's obvious enough. No C, T, D or E suffixes were used. The "E" was used to designate the class, it no longer designated the gasoline engine. The Diesel was officially a E300Diesel, for example.
I wish my info here at home covered production numbers for the Sport and Sportline, but it doesn't. Sounds pretty rare, especially in a sedan model. Gilly

wasn't aware of a Sportline specific exhaust: "pre-catalyst eliminated" (the section here at MBshop describing the W124 doesn't make reference to an Sportline exhaust..)
...what's a "pre-catalyst"? is it a resonator located before the catalytic converter on the exhaust system? -fad |

"Pre-cats" are little catalytic converters almost right after the exhaust manifold before the big catalytic converter.
Their smaller size and proximity to the exhaust manifold means they heat-up faster and thus clean-up the exhaust much sooner, esp. during cold-starts. I have known people to "PUNCH OUT" the pre-cats for better flow. I know of one for sale. :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E |

My Mercedes tech told me the that he expected to see the pre-catalysts on my car...and was surprised it didn't have them. Of course the result of this is lower back pressure. He thought this was unique to the Sportline in that year. This does not appear to affect the exhaust noise level, however, as it is still "Mercedes quiet" at any speed.

I don't think this is correct, I can find out, i have access to the dealer guides dating back further than this.
I know 190E 2.3's had precats, I don't think the 93 124 chassis did, again I may be mistaken. I think the driveline on your car would be the same as any other non-Sportline. I'll try to get the official info for you. Gilly

I have just acquired a '93 190E 2.6 Limited Edition (700 made) which includes the full Sportline package as well as a special 4-place sport interior similar to the 190E 2.3-16V, but with black leather with red piping and red seatback and headrest inserts. Bought from the Tulsa, Oklahoma M-B dealer with 64,400 miles. For the specs, see: http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container.jsp?/overview/overview_engine.jsp&yearModelCode=88_190E26LE&class=88_190&rnav=024568&menu=0_0
GillyBenz has very kindly helped me obtain a copy of the two factory brochures for the Limited Edition and JCE is working with this board to see if they can be posted. If you are interested in seeing them or in seeing pictures of my car, I will be happy to e-mail them to you -- just PM me.

C43amg- is it a 5-sp. manual as well?
I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw a 190E 2.6 with a 5-speed. I would hope the SportLine version on the 190E would be a stick as well . . . Congrats on your new baby! :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E |
