30 Years of the Airbag

An air padded cushion protecting against an impact. The airbag celebrates its 30th birthday. With its series production in 1980 Mercedes-Benz revolutionized occupant safety on all roads. Even after 30 years of service it still has lots more to give, because now multiple airbags are part of the indispensable safety components in every car. Happy birthday to the life-saving airbag! Mercedes did invent the SRS airbag, but GM did offer a series produced airbag first (it replaced shoulder belts). Mercedes didn't have the first car with electronic ABS, that honor goes to Chrysler.
Like many technologies we had them here first, but they had problems and were not developed further  -J
