Lightbulb Mercedes 300SL Gullwing wrecked by mechanic

Filed under: Classics, Performance, Europe, Mercedes-Benz, Luxury

This one isn't going to be for the faint of heart. A mechanic recently destroyed a Mercedes-Benz 300SL during a test drive near Pleidelsheim in Baden-Wütterburg, Germany. The owner brought the car to Mechatronics, a shop specializing in high-end and vintage Mercedes-Benz vehicles, for some work. After the job was done, a 26-year-old technician hopped behind the wheel and brought a 19-year-old apprentice with him for the ride. As you can see, the car did come back in one piece, but that piece didn't quite look like it used to. Police say - surprise! - speed was a factor when the vintage Gullwing left the road and rolled. Neither the driver nor the passenger were seriously injured.

All told, the damage is estimated 650,000 euros, or $830,000 at current conversion rates. Both the car and the garage are sufficiently insured to cover the damages, and Spiegel Online says the owner took the news about his destroyed classic in stride. At this point, it's unclear whether their driver will pay to have this particular car repaired.Mercedes 300SL Gullwing wrecked by mechanic originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 29 Mar 2013 09:28:00 EST. Does a vintage car like this lose a lot of value when it undergoes a significant repair compared to original (if such still exists)?

UGGGGGRRRKKKKK!!!!

Criminal!

ANY Chassis that has THAT done to it,looses value...

SAY...Zomeone spent the $1,000,000.00 USD needed to Totally restore it...

It's Still a Very Heavily WRECKED Gullwing.

Call the Classic Center (Either One) and ask if "They" can "Fix " it."As If New".

Then, after sitting down and Imbibing (Previously)
a Snifter of The Below Pictured Beverage...Ask the Cost.

We can build it !!

To question if something damaged can be returned to new is to limit the scope and ability of man to do anything.

I think YES! this car can be rebuilt to brand new. Everything that is damaged gets replaced. Will it be an expensive endeavor? Of course. Will it be worth it? That is always up to the person writing the check. There are still MANY MANY good parts on this car, everything else can be replaced or re-made.

What a shame. There is no excuse for such carelessness. Driving school anyone?
