Lightbulb What in the name of Gottlieb Daimler is Mercedes-Benz up to?

Filed under: Concept Cars, Spy Photos, Mercedes-Benz

Start speculating folks. This is apparently a new Mercedes-Benz concept car, and judging by this gallery of spy photos, it's the most bizarre and unusual concept we've seen in quite a long time.

Based on these images, we're going to hazard that this some sort of ultra-efficient fuel-sipper, in the same vein as the Volkswagen XL1 or perhaps even an EV. Notice the elaborate fenders, which look like they conceal the very skinny tires. We aren't crazy about the cab-forward design, leaving us to wonder just what's going on with all the space behind the driver.

The long, smooth shape seems to channel air towards the back of the car, which almost looks shaped like a teardrop. Lending further credence to the idea that this is an aero-intensive concept is its lack of door handles. Instead, what looks like a touch control system stands out against the silver paint.

We'd love to tell you more, like which auto show this bizarre vehicle is destined for, but this is such a strange and surprising vehicle, we just don't have much information beyond these images. Stay tuned for more on this one when we have it. Until then, revel in the unknown (and our gallery of spy photos). What in the name of Gottlieb Daimler is Mercedes-Benz up to? originally appeared on Autoblog on Wed, 15 Oct 2014 15:45:00 EST.
