Talking E500 Lives Again!

The April issue of EVO, a British car magaine, has a one-page road test of the "new" W211-chassis E500.

The article states that an AMG version, with the twin-supercharged engine from the SL55, is due out (in Europe) this fall.

Now thats something to save for!

Only wished it had the fenders flared out a bit more...to set it from the "normal" E-class

when u see a 500E/E500, your eyes pick up those flared fenders...u know this car is special or there is something about this car

the current E55 and the new E500 just seems too much of a wolf in sheeps clothing...did that make any sense?

...it would appear that the new E500 has a different build and use philosophy vs the W124 500e/e500

~the new E500; ...forward evolvement of the E platform targeted to the not so limited few (in N America)?

~the old E500; W124 focused high-performance sport sedan project targeted to the limited few (in N America)?

...from pics of the new E500- styling is handsome, but it doesn't seem to have similar DNA of a high performance blood line as the W124 500e/e500

Not saying one is better than the other though- they simply appear to be different breeds of MB animal.

I like the idea of having a E55 styling more subtly muscular (wider body and lower rode height), but wouldn't hold the lack of it as a deal breaker in a 'own/ not own' decision

From a styling perspective I have mixed emotions!

Its kinda nice looking, although the rear lights remind me of a Taurus. And the interior, which I have seen in C/D, is to me, downright hideous. The new design has lost all sense of "mercedesness." It could just as easily come from a Maxima.

Harsh words? Perhaps? But, I do love the interior of my current E500. It still feels classy - at least to me. Cant say the newer cars evoke in me the same feelings.

Dont doubt the performance of the new E though. But for seventy large, Id have to have something which was more than just 'go fast.' Thats one of the reasons we drive MBs and not Bimmers....

Thumbs up

Nice lookin' car!

It sure beats BMW's upcoming 3 and 5 series and the current 7 series styling.

Speaking of quality interiors...

of all the newest MBs, I prefer the seating, vault like ambiance, and quality feel of the G500 (even compared to the S/E/CL)

didn't like the super high truck ride height of the G500 though

Nice!
MB had to give the SL55 more power (500) because the new W211 E55 was faster!

I'll tell you whats UGLY...that new BMW 7-series! 400 lbs heavier than a 500E, too. You'd think they'd have learned something in a decade.
