2003 CLK, nice clock?

If you are into "Time" then the new CLK is for you. The instrument cluster has its very own Big Ben.

I don't know how you feel, but I like traditional analog gauges for fuel, temp, pressure, voltage... The last thing that I need is for a HUGE analog clock to take up a third of my valuable intrument cluster space.

Is a clock an instrument?

That's like Volvo taking the tachometer out of all the 240-series cars except the Turbo, and fitting a huge clock in the place where the tach would normally go.

Come on, that's what a nice little digital clock is for! The Japanese figured that out over 20 years ago.

Digital dash...

Sam,

You are right on. I like all of my gauges to be analog so that with a quick glance I can see that all of the needles are pointing up and all is well. Conversely, I like a digital clock in a car so that it takes up less space, and I don't have to read 2 needles on the clock to get the time.

I cannot believe that instrument cluster is going into production. I do prefer a digital clock and analog gauges. But, even for those that like analog clocks, that is over the top, what was going through there heads when they decided to fill 1/3 of the instrument cluster with a massive clock? How about something more useful, like an oil pressure or transmission temp gauge?

The top half could have an oil pressure gauge with an attached warning light. The lower half could have an oil temperature gauge with a feature like the BMW M-series cars that changes the tachometer-displayed redline depending on oil temp. The center could have a digital ammeter.

I've always like the timeless, classic design used in the W124's and W126's.

I just wish they had better lighting.

I love my W126 gauges. Except the small tach, but I don't have a stick shift in my car.

Am I the only person who thinks a tach should be the same size as a speedometer, especially in a manually shifted car?

Kudos to BMW for doing that.
