timing switch

Claude,

yes you are right about a discussion a few weeks ago on this one.

It's actually a sort of a switch that changes the resistance to advance or delay the ignition timing.

It's a black round plastic located just in front of your battery and is numbered 1 to 7.

If you are using a good quality premium fuel, it should be on the no. 1 position, full advance.

Each position retards the timing by 2 degrees.

Let me know if you've located it.

yes it does. based on my manual, the equalizer plug is located behind the battery, the one on the right. it should be in the "S" position.

Hello

Would like to do this mod, but I have NO idea where to look. You say that on the 3.0L US that it is supposed to be in the S posititon? Is that the posititon after of before the mod?

Christian,

I use premium fuel from Shell or Mobil. Mine is set at no. 3 position. You could even try no. 2 & 1 to give you more boost, but in my car this is only good if I don't turn on the Aircon. Apparently the timming fouls up a bit when the aircon is on and positions 2 or 1.

BTW, how long have you had your E280?

JayGH,

I'm not so sure if that really applies to the US 300E. I'm quite certain it does for the Australian 300E. The recommended position is "S" when using good premium fuel.

DJ

Ive only had it for 2 weeks now. I checked that switch out and its on position 1.

Are you happy with ur E220? Alot of people seem to like my car rather than the round light E-Class..
