Dealer Issues
So I've been having problems with my car not performing properly, I hadn't really noticed but it used to be my dad's car and he said it was noticably weaker than when he had it, he offered to have the dealer fix it because he has had great service from them for 10 years. I'm only 18 and when I pulled into the dealer they just looked at me, I had to walk right across the lot where they were standing with their arms crossed to speak to them. I then asked for an appointment to sort out and fix the problem, they said just bring it in next week, so I took it in this Monday and the mechanic says "look you can't just bring it in and expect me to drop everything and fix it can you" so I went back to the service desk and asked them to pick it up from my house and leave a loaner as It's my only car. They were due to pick it up Today at 9am, I got home at 2pm and it was still there so I called the service manager and swore at him - he was round in half an hour sans loaner, I was furious at this point because I was late to meet my gf and I had no car. He then drove me back to the dealer and said "If you don't mind me asking, how old are you" I said 18 "Look I'm really sorry but we don't loan cars to under 25's". So now I'm at the dealer with no car, called the gf and she had to come pick me up. Grrrrrrr. My dad called them up and yelled at them, because with him all a service ever required was a phonecall and there would be a nice loaner sitting in place of his car a few days later. i would just like to say, if Mercedes is trying to aim for a younger clientele they are definately going the wrong way about it! Looks like i'll be sharing mum's Discovery for god knows how long.

The "no loaner to someone under 25" is probably for insurance reasons. A lot of insurance policies do not cover persons under 25 years of age, therefore it may be out of the dealer's control. The loaner may also be a rental car from a rental agency (Enterprise,Hertz, etc.) and a lot of these companies will not rent to someone under 25.

But, they could have had the courtesy to tell him that in the first place, and before they got him to the dealer with no way home!

Update
Yes this dealer was a bit rude, but I have forgiven them. After my Dad gave them a talking to they gave me a complimentary full valet! This was after the diagnosis of a bad MAF sensor, engine wiring harness and major service due.
I'm considering trading this car in for one that's a bit more economical - I hate to have to keep asking my parents to pitch in for repairs etc and the fuel bill is astronomical. It would be a shame to see it go though, it's been in my family since I was 10, we have grown up together. Any suggestions?, I'm thinking newest E-class of equivalent value, probably the inline-6 |
