Computer glitches 2002 models?
I'm a new guy to the forum and have learned a lot so far. I own a 1998 S500, a 1983 300SD (love those diesels) and a 2002 SLK 32 AMG that I'm having trouble with.
I drive with two feet, got shot in the Army and have to drive this way. The SLK32 has a strange habit, when I stop in an intersection or median and then try to pull out, I can see I have plenty of time because the car is a Rocket. Intermittantly, when I do this, the car dies for a few seconds. Nearly got creamed a few times. I reported this to Benz and they have corresponded that I shouldn't drive with two feet and that the design of the traction control and computer shuts the car off "for a second or two" on occasion. My salesman reports the same behavior in his demo car, he's a two foot driver too. I love the car and would like to keep it, does anyone have a source that could modify the computer or has anyone experienced the same issue and might have some thoughts? I don't want to take a great big beating on the car by selling or trading, I just have my 80 year old mother on my butt about driving this one, I pulled out with her in the passenger side and scared the crap out of her..... |

I know there were issues on early BAS equipped cars pertaining to this, should have been resolved. I don't think it's a normal situation myself, but I haven't had alot of SLK32/320 driving experience. is it possibly only doing it during warmup phase?
Not to be a "smart ax", I'd like to see the problem fixed as much as you, but I would recommend not putting yourself in a situation where a momentary (lets say even 3 to 5 second delay) puts you in danger of being hit. I know it can be tough, we all can get impatient and want to just get going. Gilly

Gilly, thanks for the input. I certainly don't think your comment innappropriate. The car doesn't do it during warm up. It's intermittant and unpredictable and I'm leaving it in the garage for now.
You sort of get conditioned to the speed, I had a Clk430 before and have owned a few of the Benz hot rods. They are generally so fast, you count on it and pull out sometimes where you wouldn't dare with my 300SD. Even with that said, in normal driving, the delay is unpredictable and, I think, dangerous. |
