For the 500SEL it's pretty bad. I'm looking at around 12-14 mpg. Maybe a little bit better on the highway. The car may need some things adjusted, and I do drive with a heavy foot.

In warm weather (50+) averaged 21-22 w/mostly city driving. Longer highway trips better than 27.

Averaging 19.5 now that the weather has turned nasty cold (it's +6 now) 2-5 minute warmups average 0mpg

Gentlemen,
I just picked up my 97 e420 from a dealer in Kentucky and drove it home to Charlotte. So far, I absolutely LOVE this car. Plus I got 25.6mpg on the trip down. I think that's pretty darn good from this car. Am I right? Seriously, I don't know.
Thanks and enjoy your rides!

1990 300te 4-matic 132,000 miles. Mixed city and highway=16.5mpg. 18mpg when mainly using highway. My best is 19mpg, and my worst was 14. I took this car over from my mom and she used to get around the same mileage, but her best was 21mpg.

'72 250 2.8/AT, 14 city, 19 highway, best 21.
(I used to have a '72 4 cyl 220/AT that only got about 1 MPG better than my 250.)

'60 220S 2.2/MT, 15 city, 21 highway, best 23.

These old cars all need an overdrive gear!

fuel economy, 1992 300E

Just calculated fuel consumption for the first time on my newly acquired 1992 300E (103 6 cyl engine). Got 18.1 mpg in nearly 1000 miles of mixed highway and local driving. I will admit that the weather has been particularly cold this month, but it is a disapointing result nonetheless. Especially after 35 years of driving diesels! I expected mileage in the low 20s, from what other owners had told me.

Now I don't feel quite so bad. My last tank in the 300TE I averaged a bit over 14 mpg. Must be the cold weather, letting the car idle while brushing and scraping windows, and losing the cold air scoop (it fell off) has cost me several mpg. I know my car can get 23 mpg on the highway (driving back from Florida over 1200 miles). Could it be my lead foot? I've been enjoying the hp and the torque of my new gas MB, having driven diesels for the past five years or so...

I mostly fill up at Esso since I get the best mileage, with the worst for mileage being Shell.
I thought the oil companys put a certain amount into a common pipeline and then take out that certain amount of gas at the other end. And then as they fill up the tanker trucks they also add their proprietary detergents, Techron, etc. *

My question is how does one gas give you better gas milage than another?

*(There are some exceptions to this rule like Amoco Ultimate Clear Gas and Sunoco 106 octane)

Regards,

Don

P.S.

My C280 gets about 24 MPG combined. I haven't checked the 190E yet.

Usually get 16-19 mpg on my commute, cruising back-roads, trying to avoid heavy traffic.
I think I got 24 or so on an extended highway trip.

I think the lowest I've ever seen is around 12, but at that point the rubber I was burning off my tires was probably costing me more than the gas.

These numbers are from the little in-dash display... Has anyone tested that display? I've checked it once or twice by checking my odometer at a fillup, and it was at least pretty close. (As well as I could do the math in my head.)

In November.. my friend and I drove from Columbus to Indianapolis and got just over 18MPG on a full tank. The tempreture was from (35*F to 26*F) in between the trip.
