Post your MPG for your gasoline MB

1999 E320 with 70,000 miles

Mostly local driving 18.13 to 22.23 MPG
Mostly highway driving 27.68 to 28.25 MPG

Minimum octane rating of 91 for fuels used

Overall, I'm very very pleased with the
economy of this 6 cyl car .. plenty of pep too !!

I also have a diesel MB .. so 0-60 in anything
faster than 20 seconds will impress me

Jim in Ct ..

I don't have a gas MB now. I had aW124 230E though. It had the M102 (??) 2.3L 8V I-4.

The thing was so slow it had to be worked really hard to cut through traffic in Jakarta...

I wasn't impressed by the mileage either. Definitely much less than my turbodiesel. So much for being the 'more-economical' gas powered W124.

see you at the meet Triffin

Never have gotten beyond 16.5 even all highway! But I do love having a V8.

1994 E420: The last tank of gas lasted 344 miles, it took 16.7 gallons to refill, which equals 20.6 mpg. Not bad for a V8 w/ 275hp. The first tank I measured was about 16.5 mpg, but I was playing with the go-pedal a lot.

1995 E420.

For 2002 I drove just over 27,000km (16,200 miles). I averaged 21.6mpg for the year. I estimate my driving was about 70% highway and 30% city. My city mileage is usually around 18-19mpg with it dropping off in the winter and snow. My worst ever for a tank of gas was 16.2mpg. City mileage is generally 22-24mpg, with my best ever for a tank of gas being 26.4mpg. I generally drive 120km or so on the highway (72mph). I have heard that you get better mileage at lower speeds (the environmentalists always tell you that) but I have not found it to be true in my own experience. I get pretty much the same mileage on the highway between 90km and 130km.

I also find my mileage varrys more that I expected depending on where I fill up. I mostly fill up at Esso since I get the best mileage, with the worst for mileage being Shell. I have to fill up with the 94 at Sunoco (and extra 2 cents a litre) to get the same mileage as the 92 at Esso. Petro Canada is just about the same as Esso for mileage, just off a little.

I am very pleased with my mileage in the E420, it is a 41.4% improvement over the 420SEL I used to have.

1987 300E, 238,000 miles.

A 50/50 split of city and highway miles usually gives me around 20-21 mpg. 90-100% highway usually gives me about 24-25 mpg, depending on how fast I drive. I can get 25 if I stay around 75-80 mph, it starts going downhill from then on out. Haven't figured out if it would go up if only I drove a little slower..

On our trip to Jasper and back last week, I logged 730 km's in the C230 before the low fuel warning light came on. I put 55L of 91 octane in 'er, recording fuel economy of 7.5L/100km's during mountain driving.

That's 32 miles per US gallon for you Yanks.

After filling, we drove home, and topped it off. With 399km's showing on the trip odo, I squeezed 26L in it. Economy was 6.5L/100km's or 36.9 miles per US gallon.

In heavy city driving I usually get 9.5L/100km's or 25 miles per US gallon. The worst tank EVER was a week of stop and go in 35C weather with the AC on full load the whole time. I got 11L/100km's or 22 miles per US gallon.

On our 7300 mile trip last summer we averaged over 20 MPG for the whole trip in our 1993 400SEL.

Same as Gary with My '95 E420 as well. Got 26 on a road trip last year - cruise control set at 80mph most of the trip. Indeed - awesome efficiency for such a potent powerplant. Signifigantly better than our old SUV ('95 Nissan Pathfinder), and safety, performance, and quality in another universe!

It's been almost a year exactly since I bought the beast, and I'm still thrilled to run to the store, or do whatever other 'gofer trips' the Mrs. wants . Can't imagine anything except a very clean W124 E500 taking me away from this car, otherwise it's 'till death do us part or the wheels fall off'.

Regards,
- Ryan

The best fuel economy ever observed in the 380SE was 23 mpg highway (approx) at 70-75 mph, with one person in the car and no luggage, and without running the A/C (this was on a cool fall day).

Hard to believe, but the "wimpy" 3.8 liter engine was designed for fuel economy.
