ACC Fan Speed (W124)
Hi. I have a 1994 E420 and when I use the ACC (Automatic Climate Control), the fan speed never seems to go as low as the manual low setting. I can always here it blowing, and it does slow down once the car warms up, but it never blows as slow as it does when I push the button for slow fan speed. Is this normal?
Thanks,

Howdy. I'd think about making sure the ACC filter was clean. Good luck...

I have a 92 400e and suffer the same problem. I guess I'll have to check the filter as well. But I do have to say that I am no a fan of the ACC! I don't like having only 2 fan speeds to manually chose from. This is the ONLY car I've ever been in that restricts you in this way. What the F***! Are the German engineers really such control freaks? Futhermore I do not like the fact that the ACC determins when air will come out of what vents IT chooses. To futher rant on - I hate how long it takes for the ACC to change air temp when adjusting the temp dial. To me, the functionality of the ACC is one of the things I think really tops the list in what is sub-par in the W124 (don't get me wrong, overall the W124 is a great car). Am I the only one who feels this way?

So, you don't like the ACC? If it's that important, there are a lot of other cars out there! Seriously, it is limiting. I often find myself shutting off the dash vent by the driver's window when the floor setting is selected. The dashboard is not the floor.
I will check the filter. Is this the one you access under the hood below the wiper assembly? It should have been replaced by the dealer when they said they did the 45,000 mile service. Thanks,

I guess I expected better from MBZ! I think the performance does not measure up to the level of quality that this car is supposed to be at. To ad insult to injury many have to replace their evaporators at great expense before 100K! I've NEVER had these kinds of issues in any of the other cars I've owned. Please realize I just have to vent! (no pun intended)

Yea, I understand the venting and such. It seems accepted that the ACC is a weak point in most MB models.
