Question 1989 300se Is This A Good Choice?

I am new to Mercedes. I just purchased a 1989 300SE with 130K. Transmission slips when shifting. Is this a durable model and one I can expect to drive for a lot of miles?

It will last you many more years of driving pleasure.

In terms of roadhandling, it is at par with the 220 in every aspect minus the electronic whizzies, i.e. fuel calculator, etc. Infact, I think the 126 has a better roadhandling if compared with the 140.

Ride comfort is the same all round, perhaps the 220 may provide with larger and comfy seats. After a while, seats are seats and the 126 don't really lose much points on this score sheet.

It would be about time for a tranny rebuilt if the transmission slips. Probably havent been rebuilt since its date of manufacture. Common to see worn clutch plates, and perhaps a body repair kit for the valve body. Have it done, and it drives as smooth as one can expect.

Congratulations for having discovered one of MB's greatest creations!
