Hi my (old but trusted)MB 190E 2.6 failed it's emission test. Anyone have any ideas what the trouble might be? Could it be the O2 sensor? EGR valve? Vacuum leak? What should I look for...is this a common problem? Please help. Thanks in advance!!

I work with a guy who said that his 450 sel failed emissions testing because he wasn't using exactly the correct spark plugs for it

It would help to know the general condition of the car, the milage, when the o2 sensor was ever changed (60K generally), the condition of the spark plugs (wet?) and if you've notice a decrease in mpg?
