92 300CE Distributor Ignition Code 17

Was able to make a little LED setup from a search here.. Was able to read the codes in the DI.. Was surprised I only had one.. I have been working on the 92 300CE I picked up last fall.. The DI will not turn on the check engine light.. but I went to pole 8 on my 16 pole connector and got the code 17.. The book I have on codes says that's a faulty Crankshaft position sensor.. I pulled it and found a little piece of metal on it and cleaned up the conection ... But still got the code.. So ordered a new one.. Any one have some good plans for making an LED setup.. Mine is very crude but works..

Well heck.. After all the work of finding out all the information I could and building the rig to check the codes.. Seems I was lacking one very big piece of information.. The car must be runnig to make this test.. done like the others.. but car must be running..

Thanks to a new fround friend I now have all the information.. Seems you will always get a code 17 if you check it with the engine not running.. A piece of information I could not find any where... I reran the test with the engine. running.. . Seems I now have no codes.. Good news.. I did have to clean the cam sensor connection... but did that earlier.. Looks like the car is in good shape.. No codes..
