Reliability Of 420sel
I have looked various places for a w126MB. I have noiced that 420's go rather cheap compared to others. Why would this be? Or is this just coincidence?

WANT '71 280SEL - I know someone at work who's parents have owned a W124 420 for a long time. Don't know all the particulars but she said they've had NO problems with it. I'll try to get more info Monday and I'll post what ever else I find out.

My dad just gave up his '87 420SEL to my sister ( I was hoping to get it, but thats another story!). It was his baby since new, now has about 250K miles with no major trouble, ever! There is some tranny hesitation and the valves were reworked once for about $3K, other than that, it was wonderful to drive!

I expect it is because the 420 has 201 horsepower, vs. 238 for the 560 SEL.
For most of us, too much is about right. I owned a 1992 Lincoln Town Car with the 200 HP 4.6 liter engine. It got 25 MPG on the highway, versus the advertised 13-17 MPG for the 560 SEL. I just purchased a 420SEL, and I will be picking it up today, Tuesday. I hope the MPG is closer to my Lincoln. BTW, the Lincoln had 157,000 miles on it when it left with my wife. I miss that car. (LOL) Phoenix 1977 240D with 265,000 miles 1990 420SEL with 165,000 miles |
