I took a 500 4matic wagon for a demo for a little while and it was fantastic. Great power, great handling and the load assist feature was a blessing for trips to the local Home Depot. I have a shorter ceiling on my garage because of an overhead loft, and the auto opening feature worked great as I was able to keep the trunklid from hitting the roof when I auto opened it. It's unfortunate that that feature has been done away with because of repair issues with it. This is aboslutely the best driving estate you are going to find anywhere for any price (save for tuned versions of the same vehicle). Of course you do have the awesome V70R weighing in at around 15K less than the 6 cylinder model, but it's not a Benz and that is pretty apparent. The interior on it is great, but the benz just oozes luxury. If it's in your price range, I highly recommend test driving one (especially the 500, something that big should not move the way it does).

What were the repair issues with the auto opening system?
I guess it is no longer an option on the car.

They weren't opening all the way as the struts were a little weaker. They were replaced with very strong struts that only go all the way up.
