C240
I took delivery of a C240 in the autumn of 2001. I had driven a 1996 C220 since the autumn of 1995. Prior to that it was a 1988 Audio 90. (Don't ask.)
I like the C240 very much, but have had a few minor problems. I noticed that in the recent Consumer Reports Auto issue, the 2002 C240 seems to have been cured of the problems I experienced: - Minor electrical glitches, such as dash warnings about license-plate and rear- taillight bulbs being burned out, when in fact they were OK. - Bushing failures on the outer ends of the front sway bar that cause a clicking sound when going over road irregularities. That happened a few months ago. The clicking sound has returned, and I'm due for service on June 16. - Orange-peel pattern paint on some parts of the car—only apparaent up close. - Poor floor mat design that does not keep salt off the carpet. - Inadequate air conditioning except at high fan speed (service on June 16). - Squeaking driver's seat. I think that M-B should extend the warranty on electrical and bushing problems. As to potential problems with mechanical devices generally, I recall hearing from pilots that when identical jet fighters were received from the manufacturer, occasionally one would have problems repeatedly, including less power than the others, slow-retracting landing gear, etc. Go figure. |
