You can exchange your steering wheel without a problem.

Forget about installing an electric seat. The electric seats have a completely different anchoring system and you will have to completely change the floor pan to fit it. We are talking big $$$$$

I installed 16" rims on a 300TE I used to owned. Hated the ride and went back to 15". I would say 17" wheels will be a worse case scenario.

Why don't you try to get a fresh M-B 15" wheel design like the 6-hole Type A. It is much better looking than the 8-hole design.

The steering wheel style changed in 1991 or 1992. There are several things different. The newer style steering wheel, which continued through 2002 in the W210 E class, has a smaller diameter compared to your wheel; the size and shape of the airbag is different, and the way the airbag connects to the wheel in a different way, depending on the year.

I don't remember the year the steering wheel design changed (1991 or 1992), but the airbag connects via a metal contact ring, through 1993.

In 1994 and 1995, the airbag connects via an electrical contact.

You can change to the newer wheel, but you'll have to buy the appropriate airbag. You'll also need a new metal steering wheel core so that the airbag will connect.

The best way to do this is to find a used steering wheel used at a dismantling yard and switch the core to your new steering wheel.

To locate a newer style, used steering wheel to swap the innards, contact Potomac Pat. He is a member on this site that works at a Mercedes Recycling Center.

The 1988 200E did not came standard with a driver's airbag. It had to be optionally ordered.

I assume your car does not have an airbag. Your best bet would be to order a late design steering wheel (1992-3) without an airbag from Mercedes-Benz. Also there is the option of ordering the "sport steering wheel" (which was smaller in diameter than the standard steering wheel and was leather wrap).

Airbags became standard fitting worlwide on W124s after 1994 for the driver's side and after 1995 for boths front sides.
