W123 Diesel Longevity

I am an owner of an '85 300D turbo with over 219K miles. I am aware that these cars last a long time which is one of the reasons why I bought one. I am curious what is the most miles someone has been able to accumulate on this model. Is there someone with a million miles on a W123? I know there are other diesel models that have made it to this milestone.

If you do a search, you should find plenty of information on this matter.

However, there is well documented evidence of W123 taxi cabs in Europe and the Middle East which have reach the million kilometer mark once, twice and I believe even three times.

200D, 220D, 240D, and 300D are almost indestructible if well taken care for. The 240D is favorite among enthusiats.

The most popular search engines that I use unfortunately have not provided anything on the W123 series. That's the reason I posted this thread to see if the members might have more information on the W123's.

high mileage OM617

My dad's 300SD with the same engine has 470,000 miles. The only thing he's done is replace the timing chain.

Happy Motoring

My father's '84 300D only went 463K miles before it blew an oil ring. He was driving in excess of tripe digit speeds when it happened. He never babied the car, and always drove like a maniac.

He retired it after that, and he got an '86 300E 5sp.

Both amazing replies on longevity! I guess I'm going to be driving my 300D for a long time yet. By all the service records that came with my car, including 3000 mile oil changes, my car was well taken care of by the previous two owners.

lietuviai,

You said, "The most popular search engines that I use unfortunately have not provided anything on the W123 series." I believe they were suggesting the search tool on this forum. You can search the many thousands of messages posted in this forum. Give it a try.

Thanks for the clarification, I often overlook the search option that's available within the forum.
