Recommendations on daily driver
I'm looking for a new daily driver to keep my 95 wagon company. I'd love some recommendations by the group if you'd like to weigh in. Here are my requirements:
- primary use - commuting in the greater boston area @ about 15k/yr. - 4 doors (or 2) - very reliable, and low annual maintenance costs (I'm coming off of a 1985 BMW M6 euro, so I'm looking forward to spending less time with my mechanic) - comfortable highway and around town crusier - gas or dielsel are ok - less than $15k for something with less than 70,000 miles Please don't by shy. Thanks - |

Perhaps an E420 W124 or E320 of '94-'95 vintage will fit the bill? A nice 70k odo example shouldn't be too hard to find.
In the "other than MB category" for a daily driver, I've seen low maintenance, solid reliability, great fuel efficiency, & reasonable insurance costs of Toyota products hope this helps -fad |

I'd also include with the 94-95 E320 recommendion the 1993 300E (3.2), which is an E320 without the badge.
You might also find a W210 chassis 1996-1997 E320. I'm seing them between $12,-$15k, now, but they usually have around 100,000 miles. It goes without saying that the 1992-1993 400E / 1994-1995 E420 would be a great choice, too. The '92-'93 400E has the same 4.2 liter engine as '94-'95 E420's. Mercedes just decided to inexplicably misbadge these two years, just like the 1993 300E.

I will go with the Honda/Toyota products. For $15K, you can get a late model V6 Accord. You will be happy with its reliability and low maintenance, and overall performance We all know most MBs are high maintenance cars compared to Honda/Toyota.

Well, its been a month, so maybe you've all ready decided. In case you haven't, I'd suggest you consider a 95 E300D. That gives you the last year of the W124 chassis - after all the kinks had been worked out, you probably won't have too many problems there - and the OM606, a fabulous engine that returns mileage in the low 30s with very decent power. This is the naturally aspirated version, not the turbo like the W210 diesels got. It isn't that quick off the line - 0 - 60 is around 12 seconds or so, but it's fine for city stop and go, and you'll have no problem crusing at whatever highway speed you want. Clean examples should fit into your budget range.
