Passenger Air Bag - First Year?
Hi -
I'm searching for that first 420SEL or 560SEL. I noticed on a some sites with these models for sale that some appear to have the passenger air bag and others don't. What was the first year they offered the passenger side air bag? Also, when I find "the one" and need to have the PPI, is there anything specific that I should ask for during the inspection. If I take it to an indy specializing in MB, will they know what to look for? Thanks, Joe |

As far as dual front airbags, I believe the first year was the '89 model S-Class. It was an option at the time. (2)
Passenger side airbags came in around '97. (2) A little more info, side window curtain bags came in '99, (2) and rear side passenger airbags came in '00. + (2) ______ Totalling eight airbags altogether! Phew, (8) Regarding the passenger side airbag in the W126 420SEL and 560SEL, don't worry. Those old airbags will have to be replaced soon anyway. What really protects you in a collision is the three point seatbelt.
