Question Opinions on the C36 and C43

Hello everyone, I have been cosidering a C36 or a C43. I would like to get your opinions on which one is preferred and what are weak areas of these cars. It will be a daily driver and will have many miles (100 miles a day) logged onto what ever the car already has. Most I have seen typically have between 75 and 95K miles....I am assuming that these cars carry on the MB tradition of being good for at least 200k miles. The only thing that I have heard is that the C43 isn't really faster than the C36 as the C43 gained some weight with the additional two cylinders. Any and all insights would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Gerry

from my experiences, they are about equal in terms of overall acceleration figures. the 43 has a bit more oomph in the low-middle rpm range and thus is a little bit docile around town. the 36 is peakier (although this is still a benz motor) and is a bit more tossable due to slightly better weight nalance. it should be noted that although there is a slight weight saving with the 104 over the 113 motor, the 104 still is a heavy old school inline 6, and does push farther forward in the engine compartment, negating a lot of the weight balance advantages. we see a lot more problems with the 36 in general. a lot of extended warranty companies stopped carrying AMG models altogether because of high claims on the 36's. both are really nice cars, i guess it sort of comes down to how much you'll end up spending. the problems faced by the 36's (104 head gasket/front cover anyone??) can be offset by an experienced DIYer and the much lower cost of purchase. if you've got money to spend on it, search out a starmarked C43. it is a very satisfying car to own and drive. either way, you'll be getting a great ride.
