I was just browsing eBaymotors today and spotted this, a 1987 560SEL VIP model. I've never heard of one of these but thought it was interesting enough to share. It reportedly only has 6422 kms on it.

Actually, here in Latin America (although NOT here in Costa Rica) and I am pretty sure in many other regions of the world, bullet-proof Mercedes are quite common.

Most M-B dealers can factory order them and the customer has the final word on how much "safe" the car can be, in other words, there are different levels of protection you may specify on the car.

Many of these cars are ordered by Embassies, government officials and other "not so friendly" individuals, for example, it is well known that all drug-related M-Bs are bullet and even granade proof.
