Losing Posts

Howdy All,
One day I'm posting along. The next day I come on the forum and I post and I have 10 fewer posts than I did the day before. I have noticed small changes up and down so is this some kind of correction going on or is this a glitch.

Frank:
I for one will occasionally edit out some posts which I feel could stand to be deleted, for an example a post which isn't much more than a link to an Ebay vehicle for sale, eventually the item is no longer on Ebay and what's the point in having that in the archives?

Howdy Dan,
Thanx for the info I'll be careful about the threads I post in
OT from this: I was e-mailing back and forth with Liz Cintolo who is vacationing in Michigan and you had mentioned a couple places to go. She said due to her schedule she couldn't make it. Maybe next year.

Frank:
No need to use any undue caution. Maybe I'm too careful about conserving the bandwidth, just looking out for MercedesShop I guess you could say. Some things, such as Ebay items example I gave, or lets say someone giving out info on a get together which has already happened, or a TV show (race or what have you) which has past, what's the point in keeping it there? Not saying it wasn't worth posting, but if it's old info, why keep it around longer than neccesary? I try to go through every month or two. I have a smaller forum, so it's not that big of a chore for me, the really big forums, like tech help, that would be a big undertaking.
Gilly
ps I hate vacations with "schedules", except the one scheduled item at the end that says "7 am Monday, be back at work (if it's convenient)".

Yes, about bandwidth, here's a neat way we'll offer to reduce your bandwidth usage!

Members could download the current graphics (in a zip file probably) and all store them in the same place on their drive (say, c:\mbshop), then the forum pages could simply instruct the browser to load graphics from there instead.
Perhaps you'd have to enable this option in user CP so users who don't download the graphics will still get the current system of downloading from you.

I'm sure many of us would be happy to do that, it would speed up our browsing and decrease your bandwidth usage!

I'm sure the browser is supposed to cache files like these, but mine always seems to show blank boxes and the graphics come up slowly (on a modem) - perhaps they don't cache for some reason?

Oh yes - People with pics in signatures aren't using up your bandwidth of course, and I'd hate to see those go :p !

Yeah, but Gilly..... do you really find it likely that 10 of Frank's posts were "old" or what have you, and so deleted... all over one night???

YYou know what else I notice... when there is a long thread, the posts don't go in order. For example, I will post a reply to someone else's post, yet my post will end up BEFORE their post in that thread. As if I'm psychic.,`...

Frank's problem is not the moderator deleting worthless threads...

...it's POST traumatic stress disorder!:p

Seems I too have just recently lost a number of posts. Oh well, guess I'll have to read and answer more questions .

If bandwidth is a concern, why not automatically delete any posts over a certain age, say 24 months? I doubt that much irreplaceable information would be lost, as many people don't use the search function, often causing the same question to be presented and responded to on a regular basis (monovalve and OVP relay questions are prime examples).
