'94 E320 Wiring Harness

Hello,
I have been experiencing many of the typical problems associated with a bad wiring harness. So after too much money at a mechanic to tell me the same thing I am left with the task of finding an affordable wiring harness. The mechanic I took it to wanted $1200 for a harness and another $1200 for a throttle actuator. Does anyone know where I could find a good interchangeable part, used part, or new part at a good price?
Thanks,
Mike

I believe that FASTLANE, the store that sponsors this site can get you a harness for much less than $1200. There are instructions under the "DIY" tab at the top of the page for how to install.

I had the same problem with my 95 E300D. The most of the insulation in the harness had been frayed already and had been causing a lot of intermittent problems. My 16-year old son rebuilt the entire engine harness in one day. The car started without any problem. Considering that gas engines have more controls than diesel, I would think yours could be a lot harder to replace . Good luck.

I got my harness for 150.00 from Mercedes after alot of *****ing and pulling up all the posts from here and every other Mercedes web site showing there is a "defect" from Mercedes. I installed it, took about 6hrs give or take. You will also inevitably break some vacuum lines and stuff that has dried out etc.
Good luck!

Hello Chris,
Did you contact Mercedes Benz of North America? Do you still have the number that you used? I bought the car a few months a go with just over 60,000 miles and it was idling weird at the time but I never thought it would be such an expensive problem. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I did contact Mercedes of North America and spoke to a local rep who was familiar with the problem even though the service manager denied any knowledge of it. I would go to your local Mercedes shop and speak to the manager and ask for the local reps number or the next time he will be in. Also run seaches on here, benzworld, mbworld and see this post:
Attn! W124 Owners

as well go here to complain and pull up info on your own to bring to Mercedes:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/complain/complaintsearch.cfm

You will have to dig deep, check model years 93-95 look at both the 300 series and E class listings as well as anything electrical, they do a ****ty job of organization Im sure on purpose, but you should be able to pull about 25 complaints from it! And do your part and call in and complain as well.

Hope this helps!

Chris

Where to Buy

All,

I went through the "where/what to buy" on another forum. See:
