I have the car at the dealership, supposedly the harmonic balancer is falling apart again.
Car is a 2001 e430 with 40,500 miles. I had the harmonic balancer replaced under warranty in November of 2003, with 23,700 miles: 112-035-13-00 Vibration AB 006-990-70-04 Screw What is the most updated part used for the repair? I heard it was 112-035-13-05. Is this different from the balancer I have? Has anyone experienced a failure with the updated part - in other words, had to replace their harmonic balancer twice? My car doesn't qualify for the recall because of the model year and because it supposedly has the improved part. Thanks! |
late to join the party here, but why isn't MB doing an official recall for rusting spring perches!!??

Spring perches
I don't know the structure or the materials used, but anyone who lives in the Rustbelt of the North country, where they use salt on the roads -- has a much better chance of a lot of things rusting on any car. I used to live in PA and the salt there would eat the whole bottom off a car in a few years. I would think it would be hard to guarantee that a spring perch would not rust in Michigan or the other Northern states .... BC

Excuse my ignorance, what is a harmonic balancer and what does it do?

Hey There Momo!
This may be a US only campaign and it's not much of a campaign at all. I found out about it by accident that's why I posted it here. I hope any and everybody who might be affected will call their local MB dealer and give their vin number so it can be checked. So far I know of six MB owners who have had the crank pulley replaced by MB. Happy motoring!' |
I bought my 1998 E430 a few months ago and I checked on the service campaign and sure enough they said to bring it in and they would ckeck it out. They called me and told me that they are replacing it under full warranty. It is good to know the service campaign is still available. Check with your dealer and they can take care of it. Now if I can find a cheap way to replace my right side catalytic converter...
