I guess if you follow only one rule you will be safe. Never send anyone money who you are selling something to. I am not the bank. Use your bank and send me money or forget it.
I had several attempts at this when I was looking to buy a skidsteer on eBay. I had a guy who was going to sell me a slightly used machine at a ridiculously low price but I had to send cash immediately. I asked him where it was and he tells me Romania. The scams are so easy to spot.
