Unhappy Model 107 Service Manual Library-Help

OK, who knows the trick?
I loaded the 107 CD, made sure correct Flash Reader is installed, along with the correct version of Adobe Reader, and I get nothing, nada, zippo. Windows explorer doesn't ever 'see' the CD in the drive, and yes, other CD's work.

Any ideas other than bad CD from MB....we know that can't happen!

I had planned on trying the CD on a friend's computer tomorrow. However, if every other CD/DVD I own runs except this 107 Service Library, it may be a trip for nothing. I was hoping to hear from anyone who has installed this bad boy and got it to run. Thanks for your suggestion.

Model 107 Service Manual

I was also having problems with my CD. I contacted Mercedes and at their suggestion emailed STARTEKINFO.COM. They will send you a pdf file of "Issues With Classic CD". I can't attach it as it exceeds this forums size requirement. It may have your answer.

Or, email me at rbadolat@optonline.net and I'll return email the file back to you.

Bob:

I suggest trying the library index available from this site. I have all the service CDs on my PC using this quick access system and they all work just fine.

But, FYI, my first CD for the 107 worked fine with no problems, so I suspect you may have the bug troubles referred to on Dakota's home page.

If your CD doesnt open automatically upon inserting, open it thru "MY Computer" and click on "index".

I no longer have my 107 CD (sold it with my car) but I do have the 129 CD and know there are "issues".

If your CD will not AutoRun let's try a manual run.

Go to My Computer, double click on the drive that your CD is in, i.e. D drive. On the right hand pane you should see all of the files that the cd has on it. Double click on one of the HTM files that read "welcome.htm" or "opening.htm", or something that clues you to run the first page of the program.

BTW, it is very important to use the Acrobat version 5.x that comes with the CD. Do not try and upgrade Acrobat or run the PDF files with Acrobat 7.x, etc.

Cd Problems

Click on my computer, open the MB cd from the drive it's running from. Open the program file. Right click on the welcome or opening.htm file. Click on "open with" a new drop down menu will let you change which program opens up the MBCD. I use the Mozilla Firefox browser. The cd ran fine after that. Hope that helps.

I went through this with _both_ my Mercedes shop manual CD's too ~ I finally figured out how to find the index and then I'd have to blindly open files untill I hopefully got the right one ~ a time consuming PIA but what the hell .

Last time I popped in the 107 CD I had to then stop and answer the telephone , it opened all by itself and workes fine now , go figure .

that about sums up where this is at. It turns out that this wonderful combo drive can read, play, burn, etc. DVD's, but for whatever reason is 'blind' any CD's whether MB or music or what have you. The issue appears to be a pc software related problem; driver file corrupted, dll missing, yadda yadda yadda. Therefor, if the pc can't see the CD contents, then the workarounds so generously offered won't work. I think this is better left to the geek squad to figure out my machine, then one day...someday, I'll look at the 107 Library. Thanks all for your contributions!

try the following in WinXP

Bob,

Have you tried a shut down-restart of your PC. Many times this fixes the most basic of problems.

If your not afraid to try the following in Windows please:

Step1 Uninstall the drive.
Start>Setting>Control Panel>System>Device Manager> highlight and right click "DVD/CD-Rom drives">Uninstall

Step2 Reinstall the drive.
Device Manager>Action>Scan for hardware changes

This process should uninstall the drive and Windows should then be able to reinstall the drive with the appropriate drivers.
Unless you have installed hardware that Windows does not have the drivers for.

lynns,
I've re-booted this thing more times than I can count, but the de-install, re-install is a great idea. I was hesitant to try this as I was looking for the disk or software attribute that's turning off the PC's 'eyes' to see the drive in the first place. The more I think about it, re-installing should put the drive back to so-called original state. Thanks for the tip!
