Which service manual?

I knew sooner or later I'd have to get a service manual to guide me into and through my '96 SL500, but it's become clear it's sooner. So: Which one? There appear to be a number of DVD versions for sale on eBay. Has there been discussion here or elsewhere of which one best supports a hands-on owner? Conversely, did you buy one that turned out to be a dog? Also, what's the thinking about a manual on local DVDs vs. AllData?

Thanks!
Alan

I bought the Mercedes WIS program, I had 3 benzes at the time and the WIS looked like it would cover all 3, it only covered the 2001 M class well, the 400E I bought the CD (basically PDF's on a disk with a good menu) and that was very helpful, forget the WIS (80.00), still looking for a good one for the 88 560 SL.

Don't by the eBay WIS unless you are real computer literate. If you want the latest and greatest from Merc then please read STAR Classic Service Manual Library on DVD

FWIW, I recently traded in my original R129 'STAR Service Manual Library' on DVD for the new release and it is so nice and easy to use compared to it's predecessor.

WHOA!!!! Please elaborate on the DVD trade-in. I bought the original version when it first came out a couple years ago and have not overly pleased with it. Answers some questions; leaves others unresolved. And the interface is horrible as compared to the Model 163 Service Manual. Anyway, I would really like to know how you traded in the original R129 version.
Inquiring minds want to know!
Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff,

Use the link in Lynns post above, when the page opens, skip to the last page of posts (p4). The contact info at MBUSA for exchanging the old DVD's for the new version is there.
