Want to be a mechanic???

Want to be a mechanic???
A domestic mechanic must commit to memory the roughly six thousand word basic language; then learn the definition of each, now learn the theory behind the definition, then you get to figure out all the clever and tortured ways each company applies it.
This gets very rough if you are a top level Master Mechanic, domestic, Asian, British, European and Russian, each individually requires as much study as domestic.
Did I mention that every four years they change everything.

Um, no, right answer. I side with WHunter on OM. Please check following link.

http://www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/other/glossary.htm

Diesel engine: Termed a compression-ignition engine, it depends upon the heat generated by compression to fire the fuel, which in this case is diesel oil. Also known as an oel motor (oil motor). DBAG abbreviates this as OM.

Best Regards,
Jim

Yes checked the link and the critical part is that "DBAG abbreviates this as OM.".... and what is DBAG? a German club? so yes OM is diesel in German. OM in English means what I said it means, and this is widely known. Have not seen any 300OM's lately. No 350SOML's either. Nor a 300SOM. They also abbriviate Not Applicable as N/A. This would be correct if you were dealing with office stuff mostly- but we're dealing with car and engines, so N/A means Naturally Asperated unless otherwise noted.
Respectfully
