Importing a German w123

Has anyone ever done this before? I am having a hard time finding a good w123 wagon stateside. I got a shipping quote for a 40' container and am just wondering how easy/hard this endeavor might be and all of the catches associated with the shipping industry. Any help would be great. Oh, and I know almost no German at all.

Thanks

If you think they are hard to find here...... Wait until you try to source a nice one in Germany. Lots of roadsalt, tough inspection, and years of use have driven most of them off the roads.

Watch the southwest/left coast for a nice one, they do turn up. Not inexpensive, but neither is your proposed plan.....

Just so you know... most Germans are buying cars in the US and re-importing them to Germany. Same goes for most other European countries. Our US dollar is worth crap now, and the Euro is around $1.50 to our $1. So anything you see over there.. is about 50% more than it is in the US.

Finding a nice W123 in tip-top shape is going to cost you about 3000-6000 Euro's depending on options, color, condition, etc. Factor in $1500 for shipping it to a seaport in the US... and then I'm sure you will have a lot of paperwork, taxes, and fee's to pay just to register the car in the US. Don't know if the W123's are exempt from Federalization... but that will cost you some.
