Best Service Manual for S-class

I have the WIS software to work with my 2001 S430 MB. The information system is quite complicated for me to get through. I saw some service software at e-bay advertised specifically for the S-class. Is there any software which concentrates or is more specific for the S-class??? I also saw list of parts for that model at e-bay, is this the same as the EPC?

Thank you for reading, waiting for reply.

Yeah, WIS isn't exactly intuitive, but with some practice and patience I think you'll find it's well worth the effort.

Factory service documents can be a little intimidating but, as mentioned, it's worth taking the time to understand them.

Also consider a car maintenance book like Chiltons, etc. These assume less experience and go into more detail about the basics.

As far as eBay, I haven't heard a lot of good things about some of the stuff. People who have bought the $39 special maintenance CD's have been highly dissapointed.

You might check the 1-800-FOR MERCedes line for a W220 Service Manual DVD. It will be pretty much the same procedures but at least all the W220 info will be together. [ If this is what you are referring to as WIS please disregard.]

BTW, did you know you can get a free subscription to EPC (US only?)? Just go and sign up but must use Windows.

Finally, I would encourage you to read as many of the posts in the DIY section on this site as well as benzworld.org. They may not be specific to an S500 but a lot of the information is applicable. Hey, they are all MB cars. Many of the DIY's in the stickies at benzworld.org/210 have digital images attached to help you locate items. The E-Class (W124, W210, etc) owners seem to be into doing their own maintenance and repairs more so than the S-Class owners.

Good luck.

Take a look at the ....

Alldata.com site/service. I think you can subscribe one car for less than $15 per year and there is a lot of good info there.

depends on how much mercedes allows alldata to use. Alldata is great for some cars and blows for some cars, depends on the manufacturer.

Thank you

Thank you for all the information. I was use to read my 5 books for my old 350SD 1991. Running through a book is easier for me. I will subscribe to the EPC and also will try the 800 number for the S-Class service manual. Thank you for all the replies. For now I need to work this EPC malfunction which at the moment is not active.

Thanks to all.

The EPC system requires you to have the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer. The system runs in a Java Shell.....

Thank you

Thanks Pawo SD. What do you mean with a JAVA runtime environment? Is this a hardware or a software I can install in my PC? I already subscribed myself to the EPC but haven't done anything since I am at my Mac. I will wait until I get home and download what I need with my PC.

At this point I am interested in getting the view of the passenger sun visor (S430-2001). I need to get the mirror frame but I was told it comes in one unit with the whole sun visor $$$$.

Thank you for your comment.

JRE is open source and you can download a copy at www.sun.com although you may have a copy on your windows distr.disks.

Check the sys req. at the EPC site to see what version of JRE might be required.

Star Service for model 220

Thank you for all your input. I ordered the Star Service manual for model 220 directly form Mercedes Benz USA LLC. Easier to use for me than the WIS. Now I will try to set up my computer to get the EPC. I already suscribed. I wonder if it is worth getting the code reader from Mercedes if I plan to keep this car for a long time. I've seen some used system around. As a Mercedes owner, do you have one of this Star reader? Is it worth it?

Thanks again.

Darrel
