Any similar set ups for atomization and chatter tests for gasoline injectors?

This is a pretty crude setup, but works for testing spray pattern of K-Jet injectors. I used a solvent sprayer filled with bulk brake cleaner here at work (this cleaner is an ethanol/hexane mixture), and a fuel hose secured to the sprayer and injector using hose clamps. I simply screwed the spray nozzle off the sprayer and attached the hose to the threaded port. Use shop air to fully pressurize the sprayer, then depress the trigger slowly so as to build up the flow and pressure slowly while observing the spray pattern. Normally the injector will start chattering when the spray starts. Anything with just streams coming out is not acceptable and will cause drivability problems in the engine. First picture is the whole setup, second shows an unacceptable spray pattern, and the third an acceptable pattern. Sometimes it is possible to unclog an injector by sharply tapping it against a hard surface while it is under pressure.

COOL! Does using the brake cleaner also help clean the injector somewhat? or just a medium to show spray patterns?

Probably not the best solvent on dried up gasoline, but being able to knock the deposits loose while under pressure helps, also the chattering of the injector itself helps keep it clean. This problem is most often seen on a car that sat around long enough to get bad gasoline in it.
