BENDIX or ATE caliper?

This question is common.

The answer is: most models offered both brands, and MB did not document which was installed = EPC can not tell us what was installed..

Danger: You can not mix these brands = isolate them front axle or rear axle...

You must check every caliper on used cars..

The LOGO (BENDIX) or (ATE) is cast into the piston shell of the hose/bleeder side on each caliper.

A stiff wire brush may be needed to break away corrosion.

You can also tell the difference by the style of the pad retaining spring, Bendix on the left, ATE on the right.

FYI

It is strictly a SAFETY issue when you mix brands on the same axle.
The ATE - BENDIX piston bores are different diameter = unbalanced brake application = potential loss of control.

Been there, done that, wet and ice roads = even the best driver in the world may have extreme difficulty staying out of the ditch (or worse).
