Replacement of Cabin Air Filters is critical

If your vehicle is model year 2000 or newer, there's a good chance it is equipped with a cabin air filter.

Fact:
#1. A dirty filter can reduce or STOP climate control air flow.
#2. An old filter will capture and grow MOLD in most climates.
#3. Old/dirty cabin air filters are often the cause of musty odors in the car.
#4. Most cabin air filters require replacement every two years per-manufacturer specification, regardless of mileage.

whunter, what of the more expensive carbon filter? Replacement required? I reckon they've never been used, but buying 12-15 year old cars for biofuel use, inquiring members want to know!

Carbon filters

I bought an after-market replacement for the carbon filter in our '96 E300D (W210, OM606NA), which looked to be the original . The replacement was very light in weight compared to the original, apparently containing much less carbon. My wife complained that it didn't work, either, so I returned it and went back to the original, which I had fortunately retained. End of complaints. It would seem that the carbon filter lasts for a good long time.

All statements in post #1 also apply to the activated carbon filters.
MB calls for replacement every two years.

Some after-market filters are not as efficient as the factory unit.
