W210 cheap blower REGULATOR
 

I am looking at purchasing a 1997 E320, but I have a question about the climate control. It seems like using the manual fan control on the climate control console, the speed only goes minimum to medium but stays the same speed even on high. Does this sound like a heater motor, resistor....? Is it a pain to get at and check the heater motor like the W124?

Well I ended up getting the 1997 E320. I am thinking it is probably the blower regulator. Is it hard to get at on these models. After doing some looking on this forum, it looks as if you need to buy the new updated blower motor, and adapter plate as well as the regulator. Is there any way to just buy the old regulator?

Well, Behr has updated the regulator sold for the 140 chassis and when one recieves one it is noted to fit 140 and 210 cars and does just fine once the removable harness on the modified part is altered. The new Behr regulator is twice the size and much more suited to disapate heat which does in the original.

Its a cheap alternative that is an improvement over original without the big bucks of the nice conversion MB made that requires a new blower and regulator.

The part you need is available here on fastlane. Go to 140 chassis blower regulator and there will be two options: a cheaper one that is pictured and will look just like your 210 car except for the harness. The second option is the higher priced Behr one and no picture. If you order it the packaging describes it as fitting 140/210 chassis and the much nicer unit has a removable harness. It comes with a removable harness for the 140 use so one must use the included harness and the wiring off the old regulator. We solder the wires and heat shrink them makes a pretty installation and an improved system.

Thanks for the reply. That is great information to know. Is this the one that I need? Also, does it sound like a regulator to you? The blower motor is not making abnormal noise. My understanding is that if the blower motor is not making noise usually it will not take out the blower regulator. It could have been caused by dirty cabin filters.

Yes that is the Behr blower regulator that says 140/210 on the packaging and instruction flier.

The regulator is a common problem and the new Behr looks like an improvement. Check it by testing the blower speed input 0-6v.

Well, I went to fastlane and didn't see two options to order for the 140 regulator, just one which was not the Behr. I called philip and he had a Behr in stock so I ordered that up.(Cost about $200.00) When it arrived, it didn't have the wiring extension that seems to be the implication in the e-mails above. I agree, it sounds great, i.e. remove the extension harness for the 140, keep it on for the 210. Well, I just ended up splicing in the extension on my own using the wiring harness from the old regulator. Everything works great. Thanks for the directions and diagnostic help.

Although the Behr regulator pictured above comes with papers stating it fits 140 and 210 chassis, it only comes with the removable harness for 140. You WIL have to use the old harness. I cut the new 140 harness right behind the connector and cut the old regulator harness off at a similar point then solder together and heatshrink and looks like factory.

please give the part number. i am having the same problem, and to resolve it with the local mb dealer is over $1000 proposition. your help is appreciated (do you have any pictures of a regulator & where to connect wires?) Is this a difficult operation?

Used W140 blower regulator on W210
 

I fixed my 1998 E430 dead blower regulator this week by using a 140 blower regulator. It works like a champ! The new 140 blower regulators have a much larger heatsink than the old ones but they still fit on the 210 blower just fine. As Steve said you do have to splice in your old 210 wiring harness to make 3 of the W140 regulator wires long enough.

MUCH less expensive than buying a new blower AND regulator like Mercedes wants you to do!

I may have come in on the wrong time for this ac blower problem, but the other day I decided to clean the engine on my w210 and it went well not knowing that it would play a role in solving my problem with the airconditioning. Like most of you, I covered the important parts and started foaming the dirt and grime. After 10 mins, hosed it down and looked great.
Following day, went out with family and guess what, ac blower was working 100percent.
I don't know if its just me or what. I am happy.:wacko:

The PO of my '96 E300D replaced the blower and regulator in January 2003. Even 5 years ago it cost him almost a thousand bucks to have his dealer make the fix but it was his company car so he didn't sweat it. Wonder what it would cost today? Glad there's a cheaper fix for those of us who don't have corporations to pay for our toys.

Hey guys. My dads 1997 E320 blower is @ one speed only.

I will performing the mod htis weekend. Would anyone happen to have what the finishing photo should look like. I am kind of hesitant cut the wires with really seeing which ones to splice or solder in.

1999 Mercedes E320 blower intermittent
 

Doctor's wife's car with only 40,000 miles.
Blower works sometimes.

Removed two panels under right side glove box. measured 12V in both large and small red wires going to motor and regulator.
Both voltages still present when regulator failed after running awhile.
Replaced regulator in pic and problem solved.

This is the new improved style according to the dealer. Looks to me like it is still failing prematurely. Removed unit was fairly warm to the touch. Cost of this unit was $140.00 from local distrib. and $240 from the dealer.

Be sure to come with a torx bit set to remove the screws. That and a phillips is all you will need.
