DIY recipe / ingredients vs proprietary products.
1/ ATF.
Wonderful stuff, Dexron II ATF is basically hydraulic oil with significant amounts of detergent and anti-foaming agents (and bugger all else) added. Apart from the auto trans, you can... a/ add a cupful to the fuel tank to clean out diesel injectors. b/ use it to fill / prime the main diesel fuel filter. c/ use it as the PAS fluid. d/ add a litre to the lube oil 200 miles before an oil and filter change to degunk the internals of the engine. 2/ Marvel Mystery Oil. You basically can't buy this outside of the US. Even if you are in the US, you might not have it to hand. You can actually make something both better and cheaper than MMO, just make up a 50/50 (by volume) mix of Dexron II ATF and Acetone (get it from a paint supplies shop) and stir to mix, then put it in a spray can like an empty glass cleaner bottle, it's great for everything MMO is great for, which is everything from freeing stuck rings etc any application where "soaking" is the solution, and also as a penetrant and lubricant, any application were "spraying or wetting" is the solution. Is part one more diesel specific, rather than gasser? Does anyone agree/disagree with any of those points, and if so, why?
