Sorry for the lack of replies, that can sometimes be a problem around here.

In any case, the smoke machine we have (SPX OTC 6285) is not approved for evap systems, and that can be an issue at times. I'm not saying that we never use it for such systems, but you're not supposed to...

The only other thing I have to add is to make sure to get extra smoke solution, perhaps see if they'll throw some in as a deal clincher. Ours is but a year or so old, and when we tried to get extra fluid, we were told that it was discontinued and hard to find. We found some, but it was a pain at the moment. Just my two cent's...

For what it's worth . . . I've used several smoke machines. If you want the best . . . go with the Vac-u-tek that uses Dry Nitrogen as a propellant source and a ultra-violet smoke that is easily detected with a Black Light. It's a DO-ALL machine that's well worth the additional money spent (approx $2K). I've used them for leak testing intake, evap and PSE systems. I know you can get OTC machines for much less, so I guess that depends on your budget.

At my previous shop, we had snap-on's smoke machine. It was great, of course had the UV smoke and made finding those purge system leaks quick.

My new shop (under the same dealership) refuses to buy one. Oh well...

I had an idea of how to make an ultra-cheap smoke maker... I have not yet tested it.

Get a Kerr jar or similar, plumb in your hose of choice. Go to an Commercial AC supply hose and get a smoke bomb...H26-692 | ACE Chemical | ASB30 | Johnstone Supply Stick it in said jar, and see what happens...
