Carmine's

Well, im sure he is trying to run a value added part to his business and existing clients. So, not totally sure if he would do it for you on the first visit (but I know that he takes care of his customers--and he did my mother in law a favor).

So what I am recommending is to check him out--

Let me know if you want his #--i will dig it up for you/

Mike

earossi,

Could you tell me about that shop in Cary that you used to use? If you used him for years he must be pretty good. I live in Algonquin, which is right next to Cary.

Thanks, affab

You could probably do worse then Manfred, but he's a rather unpleasant and utterless humorless man -- just so you know...

Yes, Jon Urness is a good guy -- they (Jon Jr. and Sr.) started out as a used Mercedes lot -- then Jon Jr. started handling the service end. He's affable and competent.

AFFAB,

Manfred, within the last two years, built a new shop in Cary, Ill. It has the unique name of Manfred's German Auto Repair (go figure).

Though Germanstar is correct in that Manfred lacks bedside manner, he does offer competent diagnosis and repair for both Mercedes and BMW's. Manfred is not a yeller or a screamer, but he is rather abrupt. You have to get over that and understand that that is the way he is with all customers. Wait time to schedule an appointment with Manfred is usually about a week.......so he must be doing something right to compensate for his personality.

Enough. The news on Manfred is that he is planning on retiring in about a year or so, and has some sort of arrangement to transfer the shop to his senior mechanic, Vince. Vince has been with Manfred for 10 to 15 years, and is excellent. He also has a nicer personality!

In short, if I lived in Algonquin, as you do, I would not waste my time with any repair shop other than Manfred's. I have used him for over 10 years, and every service has been done right with no surprises.

Drago's In Claredon Hills To Sell

For all those who have used Drago's Mercedes Benz Repair located in Claridon HIlls (Chicago West suburbs), please be advised that Drago has sold his shop. He is apparently going to retire.

That is the bad news. The good news is that his two longtime mechanics, Steve and Brian, will not be staying with the new ownership, but have elected to open their own shop in the Lisle / Naperville area of the Western Suburbs. Since both these guys are a major reason most folks took their cars to Drago, I intend to support them and become a customer.

For any of you that know either Steve or Brian, you might want to consider givng them an opportunity to service your M-B when the opportunity arises.

The new shop will be called "Pinnacle Automotive", and will open for business on January 5, 2004.

The address is 6809 Hobsen Valley Drive, #115., located in Woodridge, Illinois 60517. Phone number is 630-512-0516.

The shop is near the intersection of Route 53 and Hobsen, and is located in a small industrial complex.

Brian indicated that until they get their clientel list established, they will work on other types of cars as well.

These are two young guys that are competent and honest. It would be nice to see them make a go of it.

Yes -- good luck to them. I'm saddened to see Drago go though -- it's a loss to the Mercedes community in the area -- he is truly one of the good ones.

Reviving this thread to get an update

Manuel 300CE,
Any update to share on C&H? I'm interested in your input, trying to find good shops in Chicago area. Thanks. Any others, particularly, N or NW?

Ron would recommend Drago or Jon at Star Mercedes. Or are they both good at what they do. I need a blower motor replaced in my E320 and dont feel like messing with it since its about 3 degrees out right now lol.
Thanks,
Chris
