300SDowner: Save yourself $$$ and a lot of grief. See the reference to MORRIES by charlescarino earlier in this thread. Morrie isn't exactly in south Kansas City but he will treat you right.

Avoid the guy on 62nd St. Terrace at all costs.

Springfield, MO

Do not, I repeat do not go to the Springfield, MO MB dealer for anything but a runaround and lots of smoke and mirrors.

To make a long story short (I have a number of stories about them, but I'll just mention one), I took my wife's MB there a few years ago with an A/C that slowly quit putting out cold air. They kept the car for a week and finally said that it needed a new compressor and evaporator. That will be $2,500 please. I said: No, thank you.

I took the car home, figured out how to add refrigerant, did so, and the A/C has worked fine for the last FOUR years.

I should have learned my leson then about the stealer......ahh.......dealer. I didn't and had an even worse experience another time. Just a heads up and it is all IMHO.

Can't say enough good about Morrie

I have had a number of dealings with Morrie over the years..He and the whole gang will treat you right. A truly nice guy.

Say, Since66- I heard through the grapevine that Jay Wolf sold out of the Benz business due to a internal family issue (divorce was what I heard).

Yes, they have sold the dealership to the same group that owns Aristocrat. I was told the new owners, Suave, came in and fired everyone there that had moved to Wolfe from Aristocrat. I ran across one the the techs at Heart, 78th and Wornall and Heart is now doing MB service.

Good Shop Recommendation and Experience

Hey guys

I own a 95 E320 and I would like to thank KC Benz Owners who posted positive feedback about Morrie of Kansas City as a highly recommended indie for Benz. My vehicle has a pronounced shimy when braking especially at low-medium speeds and all along I thought it was my rotors which turned out to be right.

I went into Morries and he diagnosed my problem right away, and even allowed me into the shop to personally view the warped right rotor.
He turned both my rotors (to equalize the thickness and smooth out any warping on my left rotor), did a oil change and answered all my questions about the vehicle. The guy grew up with Benz and BMW all his life and his dad still owns a benz dealership in his native country of Iran so he know em inside out.
You gotta love that impressive collection of benzez especially that pristine Rolls Royce.

Again, Thanks for the good info guys

That's what I heard too. But he made a bunch on the building alone according to my source who happens to be the guy that sold that building to Jay Wolfe.

I also will vouch for Kenny Mitts at German Imports Specialist. Good work, very straight, no BS.

another endorsement for Morrie

I posted this in the KANSAS thread too, but since Morrie's had recevied so much attention here, I felt compelled to throw in my 2 cents. My 87 560SL has what I thought was a nasty oil leak and I was expecting the worst. Morrie did a thorough diagnosis and took care of some minor leaks with valve cover gaskets, but the big thing was that the steering gear box was leaking. He rebuilt the thing and presto: no leaks. He also got my AC working with minimal effort and tightened up a loose crank sensor wire that was causing periodic stalls. Fixed right for a fair price.

He's pretty far from where I live, but well worth the trip.

I have had excellent service and well done repairs on my 1987 300 d at Leiby's Automotive 1655 Quail Run Millersburg Mo.Phone is 1-573-642-3026 They are fine people to deal with. I originally had a Mercedes Tech at the dealership tell me he was the best in the area and I agree he is

Think Southside Autotech in Lincoln is good.

I wouldn't ever go to Tom's Imports of Columbia Missouri again. He ruined my first MB experience. I bought an 89 190d that had leaky delivery valve seals. He quoted me $200 for the replacement (one oring on the #3 valve) and a couple days turnaround. He led me on for a week saying the part hadn't arrived yet and was ordered from California. Turned out he ruined the Injection Pump. I couldn't afford to get a new pump and have it installed. He refused to pay for the damage. Turned out to be a very bad deal and I felt he was very dishonest in the transaction. I've never been burned as badly by a mechanic. I ended up having to sell the car.

On the other hand, Paul Stroutman of Legend Automotive (Columbia's Mercedes Dealer) is a very honest guy. He will answer my questions over the phone. He even walked me through removing and resealing the entire IP (external seals and o-rings) on my current 87 300D. Very very smart guy and really knows his stuff on MB diesel as well as gas vehicles. Super nice older guy with experience. But he's a little expensive since he's at the dealer. At the same time, you get what you pay for.

Tom's Imports of Columbia MO Ruined the IP in changing leaky delivery valve O-Rings - Refused to stand behind his work. Mid-MO MB drivers-AVOID Tom's.

I'm going to second most of what 777funk has said here. I've had very little reason to go to Tom's Import of Columbia, but my limited interactions have not been all that great. Every so often I will call to see if they have parts in stock that I would otherwise have to wait to arrive by mail. Generally, the over-the-phone customer service is not all that great (better from the local dealer). Also, I once took them the spindle (which I had already pressed the old ball joint out of) and a new ball joint - asked what is would cost just to have them press in the new ball joint. Tom says "$50." That was just for one side! I would have paid him $50 for both, but come on - $100 just to press in new ball joints. Forget it - I did it myself.

On the other hand, I've had pretty good experiences at a local dealer - Joe Machens. I've never had any work done there yet, but will probably take the cars for alignments there and see how it goes. I have bought lots of things from the parts guys, though. They are always helpful on the phone and in person. They are not offeneded if I call up and just want to order a couple cheap o-rings (although I've spent much more there). AND, most importantly, they don't mark-up the parts (more than normal I mean). As an example, I ordered the delivery valve splined socket (oh yeah, they will sell you the tools, too) - IIRC I paid $27.50 for the socket. You can't find it that cheap on line. Good experiences - they do have to have parts/tools trucked in from St. Louis a lot, but usually shows up the next day. Go to Joe Machens for parts/tools. I will report back if I ever have them do any service work.
