FS: 1987 300TDT Wagon - Dallas, TX

Hi All -

I purchased a newer wagon, so am offering my 1987 turbodiesel wagon for sale. I'll describe the basics now, will try to get pictures up over the weekend.

The car: 1987 300TD Wagon (124.193) ~141K miles. Always a Texas car, I'm the third owner. Always garaged - both at home and work. Arctic white exterior over Palomino leather interior. The car has three options: sunroof (hey, it was a no cost option!), leather seats, and the third seat. I have extensive books and records dating back to the original delivery of the car, including the Munroney sticker ($48K+!).

Mechanical Condition: Runs, rides, and drives very well. Has been used as daily transportation for the wife & I the entire time we've owned it - five years. All services are up to date, including oil (Mobil1 5w-40), transmission (Mobil1 ATF), differential, coolant (Zerex G-05), brake fluid, etc. Lots of little items addressed during the course of my ownership. Here's a partial list, off the top of my head: rear suspension accumulators, hatch struts, hood pad, driver's seat spring and pad, four wheel brake job including rotors, pads, brake hoses and parking brake shoes. Seats redyed and treated with Leatherique. Fresh Michelin tires. Oh, I almost left out a biggie. Entire a/c system replaced within the last year, including evaporator, vacuum pods, compressor, condenser, hoses, etc. Works great in the Texas heat. I've got a lot of sweat equity in this car, kinda hate to see it go.

The Condition: All original paint is glossy; no fading, chalking or oxidation. Interior is clean as well. No cracks in the dash. Wood is in acceptable condition; it does show a typical amount of wear. Drives tight - no play in the steering, rides like it's supposed to, no strange noises.

The downsides: About a dozen door dings need to be removed to make the body perfect. Paintless dent removal would do the trick. Rear bumper impact strip could stand to be replaced. Two wheels are perfect, two need refinishing. Passenger seat has cracking in the leather of the seat bottom - previoius owners didn't maintain their leather! One power window is currently on the fritz.

Overall this is a pretty darn clean and well maintained wagon. If you've been looking, you'll know the wagons tend to be used hard and put up wet. You could tell your neighbors this car is three years old and they wouldn't doubt it a bit. Not quite a garage queen, but wouldn't be difficult to get it there.

Haven't decided on final pricing, but I'm not looking to fire sale it.

Please email or call with questions. I can be reached at 972-672-0807.

I've seen this car and it is entirely as Jim has described it. Very clean car and very easy to convert to a garage queen.

Jim,

What wagon have you purchased?

Paul -

Thank you for the affirmation. The check is in the mail. Well, at least let ME buy YOU dinner next time you are in town.

I purchased a Starmarked 2001 E320 wagon from my local MB dealer. It has 20K miles and is under warranty until April, 2009. The interior looks unused, the exterior isn't quite as clean as I'd like. Partly I'm just itching for a change, and partly I just want something for which somebody else will handle the maintenance and repair.

Been looking at the photos . . . noticed your location. I have a cousin that resides in Plano, TX.

Back to the car. Nice. I'll have to think this one over.

Fully tinted glass? Wish mine had some . . .

Were the cross-bars (bows) on the roof rack?

Hi Steve - Yes, I have the crossbars. Been used exactly once. They're out in the garage, I should put them in the car lest I accidently keep them.

The windows are tinted with a Llumar metallic film. It's not super dark, but does a really fabulous job of rejecting the heat.

Thumbs up Terrific car!!

Like Paul and a few others, I had the good fortune to meet Jim see this car at the Dallas GTG last June. Had I been more patient and been able to look into the proverbial "crystal ball", I would have waited for this very well maintained wagon. Instead, I purchased an M104 powered E320 wagon that I am happy with ~ one month after the GTG. However, I still consider the '87 OM 603 powered wagon (or sedan) - and this one in particular - a real catch.
All the best and look forward to seeing you at the next GTG.
Stuart
