This is a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D with a 4 Speed Manual Transmission. I am selling this car for a friend. About a year ago I actually swapped a engine and manual transmission into this car, due to a block failure in the old engine.

The car is a 2 owner car. It spent much of its life in the south, and has spent the last 10 years garaged and occasionally driven by the owner. The actual milage is about 150k miles, the odometer was replaced. The engine I swapped in has about 170k miles on it.

It runs and drives very well. Starts right up in the cold, idles well, drives well, doesnt grind in any gears, clutch pedal feels good, has decent acceleration (for a 240d that is!). It does not burn oil (except diesel), but the car leaves a drip in the garage. I havent had time to put the car on the lift, so it is undiagnosed at the moment.

When I replaced the engine I installed the following: new V-belts, glow plugs, block heater, fuel filters, air filter, oil service, clutch slave cylinder, and clutch lines.

The car was repainted 4 years ago, its a decent job, the only place you can see is on the engine pict, up by the firewall the paint is flaked away. There is very little rust on the vehicle. The drivers door has a tiny bit on the bottom seam, and there is a very small bubble at the drivers side rear wheel well. The jackpoints dont seem to be rusty.

The interior is decent, the front seats are still pretty firm and nice, the bottom rear seat cushion is kinda worn (see pict). The headliner is nice, the carpets are pretty good, all the glass is good (no chips). The weatherstripping is starting to delaminate a bit. The wood is all intact, but the varnish has crazing in it. There is a dash cover that would look fine, it just needs to be adhered to the real dash (its just sitting on top of it now.) There is a pioneer CD player and speakers which sounds quite nice. The trunk has the hazard triangle and a few extra car parts that will be included.

Please contact me at (518) 330-6382 or email me @ claro_que@yahoo.com with questions.

see: http://www.geocities.com/the_silver_euro/240d/240d.html for all the picts

The asking price is $3000, but that is negotiable.

Where in "Upstate NY" is this? My daughter might be able to re-route her trip to MA and swing by for a peek.

Thanks.. Franko

The car is located in Chatham, NY, which is about 20min. from the Mass Pike (I-90).

It is currently registered, so if she wanted she could come and test drive the car. I am around most weekdays.

We are in love with your car, even before we see it in person. My daughter wants to buy it but must sell her Civic LS first.. trying to get this arrnaged..

car is still available.

Kylepavao2 01-16-2005 03:16 PM

Hmm

Does this car start up in the stiff cold of the upstate new york winters without a block heater?

That is my main concern, getting a good starting car, after my episodes with my 1983 240D
